The process of submission of a proposal to carry out commercial or residential construction projects for an agreed cost is known as construction bidding. Bidding can occur at many different levels. It can occur at the subcontractor or general contractor level. Bidding can also occur at the construction manager level.

The contractors submit the bids to the developer or to the project owner. These bids are for the total cost of construction. The developer or the project owner then makes the appropriate decision. Their decision depends on contractor qualifications, price, contractor and other factors.

Construction bidding has to take place for every construction project. The project owner usually makes the announcement of his new project. The contractors then start bidding as the project owner or the developer start inviting bids.

The contractor has to make sure that his bid attracts the project owner’s attention. The bid has to cover up all the areas and at the same time has to be reasonable so that the project owner is interested in it. However, the contractor has to make sure that he does not compromise with the quality of the work while bidding reasonably.

The project owner accepts the bids for a certain period of time. Once he has received the bids from different contractors, he then starts to compare the bids with each other. He looks into all the aspects of the bids. A project owner wants to make sure that the quality of the construction is high class. Another thing that a project manager would consider is the time period to complete the project. Usually, contractors who take lesser time for the completion of the work walk way with the project.

Money is obviously a big factor while selecting the right bid. A project manager will always select the bid which is offering good quality work in the least reasonable budget. The project owner already works out his budget even before inviting bids. The bids that are far beyond his budget are not taken into consideration.

Another thing the project owner looks into is the fact that how soon the contractor can start work full fledged. Once he figures out all these aspects, he then selects the bid which is the nearest to his expectations. Usually the project owner has a meeting with the contractor and tries to negotiate further. Construction bidding has to be done in a very smart manner in order to bag the project.
